Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We welcome our returning families and those new to our district with great pleasure. Our mission in the St. Johns County School District is to inspire good character and a passion for lifelong learning in all students, creating educated and caring contributors to the world. Student success and well-being are priorities. Our students can achieve at the highest level in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities with dedicated administrators, teachers, and support personnel.
I am incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our schools. Statewide, our students score exceptionally well, earning the top scores in many reporting categories. Students in grades 3-10 earned the top scores in the state in Reading. In Math, students in grades 3 and 7 made the highest scores. Additionally, our students scored first in Florida on the Algebra I, Geometry, Biology I and US History I End-of-Course Exams. Students in grade 8 earned the top scores in science. These achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of the system as a whole, especially our students, teachers, administrators and families who go above and beyond to ensure that everyone thrives and has the resources they need to succeed.
Throughout the summer, administrators, teachers, faculty and staff engaged in professional development opportunities to grow their knowledge in academics, CHARACTER COUNTS! and social-emotional learning as well as mental health. I look forward to seeing these practices in the classroom, helping to ensure the growth and development of the individual child remains at the core of why we do what we do every day. I am blessed and honored to be part of such a fantastic team.
We continue to experience unprecedented growth in St. Johns County and plan to open the school year with more than 50,000 students in our system. The importance of maintaining a quality educational environment is paramount. Construction is still underway at Beachside High School, and the school is expected to open at the beginning of the 2022/2023 school year. Beachside High School will be led under the direction of Principal Greg Bergamasco. We will also begin the process of building additional schools throughout our community and make ongoing improvements to our current buildings. Schools, as we know, provide a sense of community for students, parents, business partners, and stakeholders, all of whom work together to make them great.
I am so thankful to have the opportunity to serve as superintendent of St. Johns County Schools. I sincerely thank every parent and family in our district for your continued support. Without you, we could not accomplish all we do throughout the school year. Your dedication and commitment allow our schools to realize such great success. I encourage you to stay engaged and connected in your child’s education. I know this will be an outstanding school year for you and your child.
