As we approach the holiday season, I want to reflect on the incredible generosity and kindness I’ve witnessed in our schools. It has been truly inspiring and heartwarming to see our school communities come together to support those in need.

Throughout our district, students and staff have organized holiday drives and collections to aid those less fortunate. The outpouring of support has been nothing short of remarkable, and it speaks to the character and compassion of our students. The dedication and empathy demonstrated by our students are profoundly moving, and I want to express my gratitude to all who have contributed to these efforts. Your selflessness and willingness to help others during the holiday season is a testament to the values we hold high in our district.

I am grateful to our community partners and faith-based organizations that support the school district throughout the season. Our ASSIST program is projecting nearly 400 homeless students this year. If you are interested in helping a family during the holidays with gifts, food or other items, please contact our student services department at (904) 547-7593.

Continuing in the spirit of gratitude, we are so thankful for all our school-related employees who enhance the educational experience for the children whose lives they touch and are essential to the successful operation of a school district.

I want to congratulate our St. Johns County School District School-Related Employee of the Year, Sylvia Bass, a bus operator in the Transportation Department. Sylvia is a dedicated and selfless employee. She has served tirelessly for 37 years and takes pride in being a voice for children. She has developed lasting friendships with her students and their families and remembers names and stories year after year. They love seeing and greeting her in public due to her extraordinary service to them. When she is not working, Sylvia volunteers in the community, organizing Christmas parties for children and providing cheer baskets and meals to homebound veterans.

As we approach the winter break, I encourage you to take this time to rest, rejuvenate and spend quality time with your loved ones. We look forward to the new year with optimism and anticipation. I can’t wait to see all our students return in 2024, ready to continue their educational journey with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

On behalf of the St. Johns County School District Board and staff, I wish you and your families a joyful and peaceful holiday season. May this time be filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. The holiday season is not only a time for giving but also a time for reflection and togetherness. Thank you for being an essential part of the SJCSD community, and I look forward to a bright and prosperous new year for us all.

Warmest wishes and happy holidays,

Tim Forson
Superintendent of Schools
